Chorby Hub · Complete Android setup

Give Chorby Hub a great home

Set up a safe wall-mounted or countertop family board, protect the battery and display, then lock Chorby to the screen with the steps for your tablet.

Choose a home for your Hub

Put the board where the family naturally passes it—and where everyone can tap it without reaching, climbing, or pulling on a charging cable.

Wall-mounted Hub

A permanent family command center that stays easy to reach.

  • Choose a central spot everyone can comfortably reach without climbing. Keep it away from sinks, cooking heat, steam, direct sun, and heating vents.
  • Use a purpose-built tablet mount rated for the tablet’s size and weight. Follow the mount maker’s wall and fastener instructions, and keep vents, buttons, and the charging port clear.
  • Route power with cable clips or a cover, leave gentle slack at the charging plug, and avoid any loose loop a child or pet could pull.

Countertop Hub

A flexible setup for kitchens, family rooms, and shared desks.

  • Use a sturdy, wide-base, non-slip tablet stand in landscape. Press and swipe across the screen before settling on the spot; the stand should not tip or slide.
  • Set it back from the edge and away from sinks, splashes, food prep, and hot appliances. Run the cable behind the stand instead of across a walkway.
  • Choose a location with reliable Wi-Fi and a nearby outlet. Avoid pillows, fabric, or tight enclosures that trap heat around the tablet.

Power, display, and everyday care

An always-available home display should stay cool, avoid sitting at full charge when the tablet offers a limit, and get a regular overnight screen break.

Power & battery

Keep it plugged in without keeping the battery stressed at 100%.

  • Use a compatible, safety-certified charger and an undamaged cable. Replace charging gear that is frayed, loose, discolored, or unusually hot.
  • On Samsung Galaxy, open Settings → Battery → Battery protection → Maximum and choose the lowest practical charge limit, often 80% or 85%. On supported Pixel devices, use Settings → Battery → Battery health → Charging optimization → Limit to 80%.
  • On other tablets, search Settings for Battery protection, Charge limit, or Conservation mode. If no limit exists, enable the maker’s adaptive charging option and keep the tablet cool.

Display care

Keep the board readable while giving the screen a daily break.

  • Use the lowest brightness that remains comfortable to read in the room. Higher brightness means more heat, power use, and display wear.
  • Hub keeps the screen awake while it is open and not darkened. Use Chorby’s Auto Darken schedule for an overnight break; if Android fully turns the display off, wake the tablet before morning use.
  • Static layouts can cause image retention or uneven aging, especially on OLED screens. Lower brightness and regular dark periods help more than leaving any panel bright around the clock.

Keep it ready

A quick monthly check prevents most unattended-display surprises.

  • After a restart, operating-system update, or power loss, reopen Chorby. Hub mode is remembered, but Android App pinning may need to be started again.
  • Inspect the mount or stand, cable, charger, and charging port. If the tablet warps, the screen or case lifts, or it becomes unusually hot, unplug it and contact the manufacturer.
  • Chorby works offline, but it needs Wi-Fi to sync changes across family devices. Check the connection if the board appears stale.

“Lock this app” is not the right lock

“Lock this app” in Recents only keeps the app in memory. It does not stop Home, Recents, or app switching. Look for “Pin this app” instead.

Turn on Hub and protect the exits

Set a device screen lock

Add a PIN, pattern, or password in Android Settings. Require it when unpinning so a child cannot simply perform the unpin gesture and continue into other apps.

Turn on Chorby Hub first

In Chorby, open Settings → Preferences → Chorby Hub. Hub keeps the display awake and in landscape while it is open. Use the power and battery guidance above for a tablet that stays connected.

Chorby’s Parent PIN protects Chorby’s own Exit Hub and parent controls. Android App pinning is the separate device feature that blocks Home, Recents, and app switching. For an always-on family display, use both.

Lock Chorby to the screen

Android calls this App pinning, Screen pinning, or Pin windows. Follow the path for your tablet, then use the Home-button check to prove it worked.

Current Galaxy tablets

Samsung Galaxy · Android 16 / One UI 8

Use this path for current Galaxy Tab devices.

  1. 1Open Chorby Hub first so it is already showing in landscape.
  2. 2Open the tablet’s Settings app.
  3. 3Go to Security and privacy → More security settings → Allow apps to be pinned, then turn it on.
  4. 4If an unpin security option appears, require the device PIN, pattern, or password.
  5. 5Return to Chorby Hub and open Recents: tap the three-lines button, or swipe up and hold if you use gestures.
  6. 6Tap the small Chorby icon above its app preview. Tap Pin this app. Do not tap Lock this app.
  7. 7Press Home to test. Chorby should stay visible and Android should report that the app is pinned.

Samsung Galaxy · One UI 5–7

Samsung has changed the setting name across releases.

  1. 1Open Settings → Security and privacy → More security settings (called Other security settings on some versions).
  2. 2Turn on Allow apps to be pinned, Pin app, or Pin windows. Open the row and require your device lock before unpinning if that option is shown.
  3. 3Open Chorby Hub, then open Recents.
  4. 4Tap the Chorby icon above its preview and choose Pin this app.
  5. 5Press Home to verify that Chorby stays open.

Google Pixel and stock-style Android · Android 13–17

This path is also common on Motorola, Nokia, and some Lenovo tablets.

  1. 1Open Settings → Security and privacy → More security and privacy → App pinning. If that path differs, search Settings for App pinning.
  2. 2Turn on App pinning and require the device PIN, pattern, or password before unpinning.
  3. 3Open Chorby Hub, then open Overview/Recents by swiping up and holding or tapping the square button.
  4. 4Tap the Chorby icon at the top of its preview and choose Pin.
  5. 5Press Home to verify that Chorby stays open.

Android 9–12 and other manufacturers

Use Settings search because manufacturers rename and move this feature.

  1. 1In the tablet’s Settings app, search these exact phrases one at a time: App pinning, Screen pinning, Pin windows, and Allow apps to be pinned.
  2. 2Turn on the matching setting. If available, require the device PIN, pattern, or password before unpinning.
  3. 3Open Chorby Hub and then Recents/Overview.
  4. 4On Android 9 and later, tap the Chorby icon above its preview and choose Pin. On Android 8.1 or earlier, scroll the preview until a pin appears at its lower-right corner.
  5. 5Press Home to verify that Chorby stays open.

Unpin safely—and know the limit

Gesture navigation: swipe up and hold.Three-button navigation: touch and hold Back + Recents together. Enter the device PIN, pattern, or password when asked.

Screen pinning is designed to prevent accidental exits and casual app switching. It is not a tamper-proof managed kiosk. Android may still expose hardware controls, emergency functions, or an unpin gesture. Full enterprise kiosk mode requires a device-management setup with the tablet provisioned as a dedicated device.

If Settings search finds none of the four pinning names, the manufacturer may have removed consumer app pinning. “Lock this app” is not a substitute; check that tablet maker’s parental-control or dedicated-device options.
